When a fellow passenger said he wanted to “kill time,” it hit me hard. In that moment, I realized time isn’t something I can casually spend… it is my most valuable capital. From that day, I made a decision: I would never kill time again. I would invest it.

It was 1998. I am sitting by the window of a moving train. The rhythmic clack clack of the wheels filled the air. We are on a massive five-day train journey all the way to Shillong. I look around the crowded compartment. People are restless. Some are aggressively shuffling decks of playing carts. Others are staring blankly at the metal ceiling above them. Some are forcing themselves to sleep for hours on end, tossing and turning. And I hear a man sitting across me let out a heavy sigh. He looks at his watch, he shakes his head and says, I just don't know how to kill this time. Oh my God. Kill time? Those two words hit me like a physical blow. I look back out the window at the passing trees. I feel a deep, unsettled realization wash over me. You cannot kill time. It's the other way. Time is slowly killing you. Time is God. Time waste is life waste. At that exact moment, sitting on the train berth, I made a silent vow. I decided I would never try to kill my time again. I would invest it. Never kill time. Having survived a serious spinal cord injury, I have learned that our true power is in our mind. Now I am on a mission to help students and competitive exam aspirants stop struggling with rote learning and tap into the infinite potential of their brains using proven memory techniques. That long journey to Xillong taught me the ultimate law of chrono-capitalism. Time is your capital. Today, many students are making the exact same mistake as those passengers on the train. You are a victim of the perfect window illusion. You wake up and tell yourself, I need a perfectly quiet, uninterrupted three-hour window to open my books and study. But friends, life is a mess. It's fully messy. That perfect three-hour window rarely comes. Instead, you get 15 minutes before breakfast, you get 20 minutes on the bus ride to college, you get 10 minutes waiting for your professor to arrive. Because you don't have your perfect three hours, you dismiss these small pockets of time. You pull out your phone, you scroll, you procrastinate, you tell yourself, it's only 10 minutes. I might as well kill time until I get home. Right? Now let me ask you a direct question. Are you failing to finish your syllabus because you don't have enough time or because you are actively murdering the small blocks of time you do have? You must become a chrono capitalist. You must treat every single minute as a high-value asset. You need to learn how to weaponize your debt transit time. So, friends, here is the three-step protocol to turn debt time into your greatest academic advantage. Step one, the pocket trigger. You cannot read a heavy textbook on a crowded bus. It's impractical. Instead, every morning, write down 5 to 10 important keywords from yesterday's study session on a small index card or a digital note on your phone. These are your triggers, your pocket triggers. Now step 2 Active Mental Review. When you find yourself waiting for a bus, walking down a hallway or resting on a bench, do not pull out social media. Pull out your trigger list. Look at one keyword, close your eyes, and force your brain to unpack that entire concept from that keyword. Mentally explain it to yourself. This is pure and highly potent active recall. Now step three, the compound effect. It feels small, but look at the math. If you do this for just four 15 minutes blocks throughout your day, you have just stolen one extra hour of highly focused active recall study time, you know. This is seven extra hours a week, my friends, purely extracted from the time you used to kill. Well, when I heard that man on the train complain about killing time, I realized he was throwing away his most precious gift. Do not kill your time, capitalize on it.
